Our learning-
Week 1 -
It has been lovely to have the children back in school this week nice and refreshed. We started the week with a celebration for the queens Platinum jubilee. It was great to see so much red, white and blue. We learnt about the queen and why it was the jubilee, we made Union Jack bunting, designed our own paper plate for our lunch, and then finished the morning with a whole school Jubilee picnic on the field. All adults are very proud of the Year 1’s this week who have completed the statutory phonics screening, we were so impressed with how much progress they have made this year. In English, we started our new text ‘The Journey by Aaron Becker’. The children were very intrigued to how we could have a book with no words!
Week 2 -
This week we started our Art unit on Vincent Van Gogh. We wrote some facts about him and we created our own version of his painting ‘The Starry Night’. We also recapped our knowledge of primary and secondary colours and developed this further by mixing colours to understand what tertiary colours are. In English we wrote a description of a setting, used speech and thought bubbles all based on our text ‘Journey’. In our maths lessons year one have been learning how to tell the time to o’clock and half past. We wonder if they can practise their knowledge at home. The year two’s have been learning about position and direction. It has been a very hot but busy week!
