This week to launch our new topic on ‘Traditional Tales’ we made some Gingerbread men – luckily they didn’t run away and we were able to eat them all up! We have been learning to retell the story of the Gingerbread Man using actions and story language. We have been really interested in the new pond as we can see it from our classrooms. It has inspired us to build our own bug hotels outside in our play area. We have really enjoyed hunting for bugs and are happy to have made a home for them! We have kept this up and will keep adding to it. We have also been busy designing outfits for the Gingerbread Man and learning how to count objects carefully in Maths.
This week we came into a beanstalk growing in our classroom! This promoted lots of talk about what could be at the top of it. The children had a go at writing down their ideas and sharing them with their friends. In English, we have continued to learn ‘The Gingerbread Man’ by drawing a story map to help us remember the order of events along with using actions. Can you child retell the story to you? In Maths, we have been developing our use of tens frames and working on knowing our doubles.
In English, we have been continuing with ‘The Gingerbread Man’ story. We have drawn our own story mountains, looking at what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Next week, we will use these to help us write these parts. In Maths, we have been exploring number bonds of ten. We are enjoying our topic work where we are looking at our school site and drawing maps of the school grounds. The children have been using some lovely positional language. Finally, in PSHE we have been talking about being kind and what this looks like. We have looked at different scenarios and discussed whether we thought they were kind or unkind and what we could do to make it better.
