Weekly Round Ups

Week Beginning 8th January 2024
We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and would like to wish you all a ‘Happy New Year!’ It has been great to have the children back in school this week. We have started to read our new class book ‘The Abominables’ by Eva Ibbotson and have been looking at, and writing, poems in English lessons. In Maths, the children are continuing with a multiplication and division unit of work. This week we have been multiplying a two or three-digit number by one digit. On Thursday, we had a visitor to our classes who spoke to us about ways to keep ourselves healthy. Our Romans topic is continuing and we are hoping to visit The Roman Baths nearer the end of term – please see separate letter for more details. Please check the website for a reminder of the Homework project we set last term, due in on February 5 th .

Week Beginning 15th January 2024
This week we have continued our poetry writing in English. The children have really impressed us with their use of figurative language and superb level of creativity. In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of the different methods they can use when completing multiplication and division questions. On Wednesday, we had an R.E day and considered the question ‘Why do believers often consider life a journey?’ The children participated in rich discussions and we were impressed with the high levels or respect shown throughout the day. Our History learning about the Romans has continued this week; we looked specifically at Roman society and the influence of this on the modern world. Another packed week, full of some great learning. Well done Year 3/4.

Week Beginning 22nd January 2024
This week we have started our new unit in English – Newspaper Reports. The children have been looking at several different reports and identifying their features. Ask your children if they can remember what the 5 W’s are. In Maths, the children have continued chanting their doubles to aid with their multiplication knowledge and continue to work on written methods to solve multiplication and division questions. In Science, we have been investigating magnets and identifying which materials have magnetic properties. For our History topic, the visit to the Roman Baths on Friday 2nd February will soon be upon us, so please remember to sign the consent form and hand it in to the office. Our Home Learning projects are also due in by Monday 5th February.

Week Beginning 29th January 2024
It has been another fun and busy week in Year 3/4. In Maths, the children have been looking at length and units of measurement such as mm, cm, m and km. In our topic work, we have been locating Roman roads and place names on a map. In Science, we have been investigating magnets and their uses and in English we have been looking more at newspapers ready to write a newspaper report of our own. Of course, our week ended with a fabulous visit to The Roman Baths in Bath. Great fun was had by all! Please remember any completed homework projects are due in on Monday 5th February.

Week Beginning 5th February 2024
What a busy and exciting final week of term in Year 3/4! On top of writing some great newspaper reports about our trip to the Roman Baths, we completed a variety of assessments throughout the week. We wanted to say a big well done and thank you to the Year 3s and 4s who undertook the home learning task. The level of creativity and the demonstration of dedication to our History learning was fantastic. Finally, the Year 4s had their auditions for our school play on Wednesday. We were so impressed by the whole year group, who all auditioned - something that rarely happens. It can be a daunting process, so you should all be very proud of yourselves, we know we are! The children made it hard to cast as they all did so well. Year 4s will be sent home with scripts, please start helping them learn their lines over the holidays. Such a positive and brilliant final week. Good job Year 3/4!
