Look what we've been up to in Woodpecker Class this term

Week 1 -

This week in Year 1/2 we have been pleased to hear how many children have been enthused by last term’s History module Brunel’s Britain. Many have chosen to explore The Clifton Suspension Bridge, The SS Great Britain, Paddington Station and Box Tunnel over the recent half term and the team have thoroughly enjoyed listening to their adventures! We have had a busy start to this term and have enjoyed making 3D Paper Sculptures in a ‘Tube Towers Challenge’ in Art, inspired by Samantha Stephenson. In English, we have enjoyed reading Superworm by Julia Donaldson and have been learning about the purpose of instructions, exploring instructions on how to look after a worm! We wonder if any of the children will decide to create a wormery at home now?

Week 2 -

This week in Year 1/2 we have been extremely fortunate to have a Stay Safe Initiative Workshop and have learned ‘how to become a digital hero’. During the workshop, the children reflected on how to be kind, keep safe and ask for help, whilst understanding what games and apps are appropriate for their age. We wonder if the children can show you their superhero pose and share the key information from the workshop with you? In music this week, the children have been learning how to keep a steady beat whilst exploring the dynamics, pitch and tempo of a music piece, inspired by different modes of transport.

Week 3 -

This week in Year 1/2 we have kick-started our new Geography topic ‘The Seaside’, with a Seaside experience down by the pirate ship. We had a wonderful time singing songs, playing in the sand and splashing in the water. We even had time for a few games! Fortunately, the sunshine came out to fully immerse ourselves in this opportunity.

Week 4 -

Last week in Year 1/2 we kick-started our new Geography topic ‘The Seaside’, with a Seaside experience down by the pirate ship. We had a wonderful time singing songs, playing in the sand and splashing in the water. We even had time for a few games! Fortunately, the sunshine came out to fully immerse ourselves in this opportunity. This week, we have continued to explore Seaside related genres in Guided Reading and have discussed what we already know about the Seaside. We have used our own experiences to share our knowledge with each other.

Week 5 -

This week in Year 1/2, we have started to look at our new Science Unit Living Things and their Habitats. The children have been learning all about what makes something Living, Dead or Never been Alive. We wonder if they can tell you all about this? We have continued to deepen our Geographical knowledge about physical and human features specific to the Seaside. We have had a busy, yet very informative week and have enjoyed some extra time playing in the sunshine!

Week 6 -

In Year 1/2 this week we have been writing our recounts following our amazing trip to the park on Friday. We have tried our best to remember all of the features that we need to showcase our best learning. In Science, we have been continuing to explore Living things and their Habitats, by taking our learning outside of the classroom to investigate different habitats and the Living things that might live in these. We made the most of the weather by designing and creating our very own class Microhabitats!
