Week 1

It has been lovely to welcome our new Reception children into Paxcroft. We started the week with home visits where it was great to see the children in their own environment and get to know them a little more. We were very excited to invite the children in to school on Wednesday and the children were super stars! It was great to see lots of smiling faces and keen children skipping into class. The children are getting to know the environments and making lots of new friends.

Week 2

This week we have had all the Reception children in together and it has been lovely seeing the children making new friends.  We have started to talk about our school values; kindness, honesty and respect. It has been great to see the children demonstrating these and recognising when they have. I wonder if they can tell you about them. The children have been on a tour around the school getting to know other members of staff and areas of the school.

Week 3

This week has been another week of firsts for Robin and Wren and we are very impressed with how the children are embracing the new challenges.  We had our first session of PE and we were very impressed with the way the children got changed. The children had great fun in the hall moving around in different ways and learning what finding a space means. We started our Sounds write sessions on Tuesday and the children have been learning letter sounds and how to blend these sounds to read words. They have also been sharing picture books and have brought these home to enjoy with you. These are picture books for the children (and parents) to use their imagination and tell their own stories and develop their vocabulary. We hope you enjoy sharing these together. Finally we have learnt a new word in Maths; Subitise. This is where we are learning to recognise small amounts without needing to count them. What a busy week we have had!

Week 4

It’s been another busy week in Reception. We have had lots of fun making new friends and getting to know each other.  This week we have been talking lots about the Paxcroft value, kindness. During our JIGSAW sessions we talked about how to be a kind friend. In Maths we have been learning how to count carefully, we had to help the puppet count out his toys because he kept getting it wrong! We also went out on a welly walk and had a lot of fun exploring the school grounds, we are so lucky to have so much outside space. In Sounds Write we have been learning new sounds and working really hard to build words. Our teachers have been really impressed with how well we are doing with this! This week we will be taking home the letter sounds to work on at home.

Week 5

The Robins and Wrens have had a great week in school. We have started talking about the signs of Autumn and looking closely at some Autumn objects. We went out on a welly walk looking for signs of Autumn. In our PE sessions we learnt a new game called ‘Colours’. We had to listen out for a colour and run to it. As we played this game we developed our understanding of personal space. This week we got given a new Sounds Write book to take home. We were all very excited to have our very own book with words! In Maths we have been learning with the Number Blocks and developing our understanding of numbers and counting. Some of us discovered a little grasshopper in our outside area, we named him ‘Grassy’ and helped him find a safe spot!
