WB 4.1.23

Happy New Year! The children have returned to school ready to work hard and excited for the activities we have ahead of us. This week we have revised some of our previous maths work ready to move on to Multiplication and Division next week. In English, the children have been polishing up their punctuation and descriptive writing skills. In PSHE, we have been thinking about ‘Dreams and Goals’ and have talked about New Year’s resolutions that we might want to make. We have been introduced to our reading text for the coming term, which is Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White.

WB 16.1.23

In year 3/4 this week we have continued our learning around the Anglo-Saxon myth of Beowulf. We have worked in groups to act out the beginning of the story and shown some great understanding of the story so far. In art this week we have had a great time making wire sculptures using pipe cleaners. There were some amazing examples of sculpture that will continue to inspire us on our sculpting journey this term. This week in class we have also focused on our citizen value of respect. The children have been sharing examples of what it means to be respectful from day to day and really trying to understand the importance of respecting others. Overall, a great week in year 3/4!

WB 23.1.23

It has been another fun and exciting week in Year 3/4. The children have been writing their own dramatic mythical stories, based on the story of Beowulf. Maybe you could ask your child to tell you their story? In Art, the children have created shadow words, which will be used to create a class sculpture. In PE, we have been working on our throwing and catching skills. We have continued to learn about Invaders and this week, some of us have created settlements and enacted various activities the settlers would have had to do. We have studied the lives of The Celts in further detail. Could we take this opportunity to remind you about the homework project we set earlier in the term, many of the children have said they have already made a start. We are looking forward to seeing their creations. A copy of the letter can be found on our website pages.

WB 30.1.23

This week in Swift, Skylark and Housemartin, we have been reading more of Charlotte’s Web and started looking at non-chronological reports. In Maths, we have continued our multiplication and division learning. In Art, we have been using clay to create fantastic sculptures, which has been extremely enjoyable. We have also been expanding our both our scientific and historical understanding throughout the week. The children will be sent home with audition sheets, which they can learn over the weekend. This will allow them to be prepared for the auditions we will be holding next week for our production – Jack and the Beanstalk!

WB 6.2.23

In year 3/4 this week we have been very busy. The year 4s have been auditioning for our production of Roald Dahl's Jack and the Beanstalk. They were all very excited to find out who would play which part on Thursday. This week we have also been working to complete our clay sculptures and to paint them once they are dry. We have seen some wonderful creativity from all involved. The children have also been working hard recalling their knowledge of pigs for non-chronological reports this week and have enjoyed planning and writing these in literacy. We are all looking forward to a lovely half-term and more adventures next term!
