History

World War One - Life in the Trenches

History is most often taught through topic work and aims for progression in the underlying skills of the subject.  The younger children are given opportunities to develop an awareness of the past and chronology.  KS2 pupils are taught about important episodes and developments in Britain’s past, about ancient civilisations and local history.  They are encouraged to make links between different times in the past and learn to interrogate a range of sources of information.

Primary sources are used where possible, through visits to historical sights and museums and by having artefacts in the classroom.  Role play, in which children re-imagine the past is crucial to bringing this subject to life.

Historical learning is often enriched by study of special events such as the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.
