Geography

We focus on developing the skills of Geography as well as learning a about the content of the subject.

During Key Stage 1 the children investigate the local area and a contrasting area in the United Kingdom or abroad, finding out about the environment in both areas and the people who live there.  They carry out geographical enquiry inside and outside the classroom and begin to learn about the wider world.  In doing this they ask geographical questions about people, places and environments and use geographical skills and resources such as maps and photographs.

During Key Stage 2 the children investigate a variety of people, places and environments in the United Kingdom and abroad.  They start to make links between different places and find out how people affect the environment and are affected by it.  They learn to use resources such as maps (including understanding the concept and use of scale), atlases and aerial photographs.  Computers and the internet are widely used in geography.
