Art and Design

During Key Stage 1 children will develop their creativity and imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials and processes.  They learn about the role of art, craft and design in their environment.  They will be given the opportunity to develop an understanding of colour, shape and space and pattern and texture and use them to represent their ideas and feelings.

When in Key Stage 2 the children will use more complex activities to develop their creativity and imagination.  These will help build on the skills learnt in Key Stage 1 and improve their control of materials, tools and techniques.

When studying art and design, all children will explore the ideas and meanings in the work of famous artists, craftspeople and designers at an age appropriate level.
