Welcome to Kestrel Class. We are a mixed year five and six class. We are taught by Miss Dale and our teaching assistant is Mrs Cook.

At the bottom of the page you can find the link to our termly curriculum letter and topic web which outlines how our topic links to the National Curriculum. You can also find a link to our Home Learning tasks which are project ideas based on our topic.

If you are looking for some ideas for books for you and your child to get stuck into, then there is a link to the Schools Reading List website.

  • We had a fantastic day today at Langford Lakes Nature Reserve, learning all about the River Wylye. We spent the morning carrying out various investigations in a smaller stream. We did some 'kick sampling' to see what lived in the river and then measured the river width, depth and flow. We then spent the afternoon following the course of the River Wylye, mapping features along the way (and stopping off to play Pooh Sticks!) Take a look at the photos below.
  • Congratulations to Ruby and Tyler who have been nominated as Kestrel Class's School Councillors.
  • Lots of you asked if you can play the game that we have been using in school to explore non-linear stories, 'The Pawn', at home. Click here to play online.
  • House Captain elections have taken place. Well done to all those who put themselves forward and congratulations to the successful candidates. We know you'll do a fantastic job representing your houses. smiley

This term we are embarking on 'An unexpected Journey', discovering fantasy lands including Tolkein's Middle Earth. We will be exploring The Hobbit as well as following the journey of a river from source to sea. We have many exciting things planned so it promises to be an excellent first term.

We have made a brilliant start to the year, working together on an art project to create a whole class 3D map of our own world.

In our first week we stumbled across Bilbo and Gandalf in our school grounds and watched as Bilbo was invited on an exciting adventure. We are looking forward to joining them on their journey.
